HISTORY

Howe Sound Performing Arts Association(1993) -- A non-profit society
with charitable tax status -- is a vibrant and dedicated organization
run entirely by volunteers. HSPAA's mandate is "to promote, assist and
develop all forms of performing arts activity in the community".
HSPAA has a strong track record within the Squamish area. With an
experienced team of presenter/producers, we can meet the branding and
hospitality needs of sponsors and artists and handle the marketing
aspects of events. We have a strong technical A/V team which has
worked with us for several years.

We are proud of our partnerships with Squamish Rotary Club, District
of Squamish, Squamish Library, Capilano College, Royal Canadian
Legion, the Squamish Arts Council, Piano Six, the Vancouver Sun
Community Concert Series and Festival Vancouver.
Two events stand out: The Grand Piano Fundraiser in April 1997 in
partnership with Squamish Rotary. The $37,000 instrument was purchased
in 1997.

--The Waves of Compassion Fundraiser in January 2005 which HSPAA
initiated with support from Squamish Rotary and the District of
Squamish. With huge community support, the event raised $43,000
towards Humanity Village (Tsunami Relief).

We offer a Professional Concert Series and have presented artists such
as Janina Fialkowska, Jon Kimura Parker, Angela Cheng, Sara Buechner,
Lorne Elliott, Borealis Quartet and Chor Leoni -- to name a few.
We have established strong local programs: the Festival of Canadian
Arts--now called Spirit of Canada; Howe Sound Music Festival--an
adjudicated Festival for pianists, singers and choirs; Star Search for
Youth ages 13 - 21 years and 6 - 12 year old in the corridor.
Our newest program -- AME or Access Music Education provides financial
assistance to deserving music students. Applications are available on
this website

Our programs are made possible with the financial support of the
British Columbia Arts Council and the terrific sponsorship of local
businesses and individuals.

Our grand piano is housed for performances at St. John's Anglican Church
in the Garibald Estates. Our dream is to move our instrument, at a
future date, to a new Arts and Cultural Centre which we hope will be
included in site planning for the downtown and waterfront areas.
